How to Create a Business Email Address in ZipWP

Setting up a professional email address on your own domain, something like [email protected], takes just a few minutes in ZipWP.

This article walks you through exactly how to do it, from making sure you are ready to start, to the moment your new mailbox is up and running.

Before you begin

A few things need to be true first. Your ZipWP plan needs to include Business Email, which depends on your plan tier, and it needs to be billed annually rather than monthly.

You also need a domain connected to your ZipWP account that is fully verified, and it has to be your main domain, something like yourbusiness.com, rather than a smaller address that is part of a bigger one, like mail.yourbusiness.com.

If you do not have a verified domain connected yet, do not worry, ZipWP prompts you to connect one before you can create a mailbox, and you can either connect a domain you already own or buy a new one directly through ZipWP.

It also helps to decide three things ahead of time: the part of your address before the at sign, for example hello, the display name recipients will see on your outgoing mail, and a password for the mailbox itself.

Step by Step instructions to set up mailbox

  • Go to Dashboard, then Business Emails. If this is your very first mailbox, click Create Mailbox. If you already have one and want to add another, click Add mailbox at the top of the page instead.

  • Type the part of the address you want before the at sign, using only letters, numbers, dots, hyphens, and underscores. Then pick your domain from the dropdown next to it. Only verified domains and your main domain show up here. If the domain you want is not listed, choose Connect Domain from the bottom of the dropdown to add it.
New Mailbox
  • Add a display name. This is the name people will see on the mail you send, so if you enter John Smith, your outgoing mail shows up as coming from John Smith.
Create Display Name
  • Set a password. It needs to be at least 8 characters long and include a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. A small checklist under the field updates as you type, showing you exactly what is still missing.
Set Email Password
  • Click Create Mailbox.

Read the confirmation screen carefully. This step matters more than it looks. Before your mailbox is actually created, you will see a confirmation showing the exact address you are about to make

Create Mailbox

Take a moment to actually read it rather than clicking through automatically. If there is a typo here, say slaes@ instead of sales@, you cannot simply delete it and try again for free; deleting a mailbox permanently uses up that slot on your plan, so a mistake here costs you more than just a moment’s inconvenience.

Once you are confident it is correct, click Yes, create a mailbox. If something looks off, click Review to go back and fix it first.

Conclusion

Creating a mailbox is quick, and the one thing worth slowing down for is that confirmation screen in step 7, since it is the only chance to catch a typo before it becomes a permanent, plan-consuming mistake.

Once your mailbox is created, you can use ZipWP webmail, Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, etc. to send, receive and manage your mails.
